Festival of Lights
Yes honey, the festival of lights was fun and dinner was also great (well, bittersweet might be a better way to put it). This week will also be full of fun with friends and work also but we can't have fun unless we work, cause fun usually costs money.
So the festival of lights was really great. There were a couple times when I teared up because this one part was really powerful. Everyone was onstage and there were three guys (possibly the three wisemen, I'm not sure) who were dressed in colorful costumes and they each had a long robe that three or four other cast members held. As the choir finished the final "Amen" of Angus Dei they lifted the robes and then everyone bowed to the baby Jesus. It was really amazing and a great reminder of how powerful and awesome Jesus really is. After that John and I went to BW3 with Ej and Bridget. It was great fun after a rocky start. Bridget found out her Grandma died so she had a hard time at first but we ended up really enjoying ourselves. And on that note I would like to ask everyone to pray for her and her family during this difficult time.
In other news, I may have an internship with Gary and Kingsway Community Church/Reach the Nations Ministry. I'm really excited about this opportunity and I hope it all works out.
Coming up, John and I plan to go to Dan and Melissa's for some fellowship and hopefully a good dinner on Tuesday. We're also planning on some dinner and maybe iceskating Wednesday with Ej and Bridget again. And Friday, more fun that I'm very excited about. And maybe even a new baby by then...

Chirstmas Presents!!
Well, I just got done with my Christmas shopping and I am VERY excited about the things I got! Now I just have to wrap them and I'll be all ready for Christmas.
Finals are finally done and I'm so happy! I just don't know what I'll do with all my free time. Spend time with John of course! Probably get together with people that I haven't seen in ages. I'd also like to watch all six seasons of I Love Lucy from beginning to end if possible but that might have to wait until I'm entirely done with school.
Well I really don't lead that exciting of a life. So I'll just end here (sorry it's not more interesting).

"School's out, scream and shout!"
So at the beginning of each month I think to myself that I'll post more than just three or four times. Then before I know it the month is over and I only have a few posts. Oh well, such is the way of a college student.
I'm trying to get an intership at J-Ad Graphics right now. Hopefully that works out for me. If it doesn't then I'm going to have to do a big project in order to graduate. Lord PLEASE let it work out!
John and I are going to see Enchanted tonight. We really need some good, quality time together. These past few weeks have been very stressful with school and I've been on auto-pilot, just going through the motions. Now most of the major things are done and I can relax a little bit. I'm so glad this is my last year and I can't wait to start doing things that I've always wanted to do. Maybe some community theatre or maybe I'll take up cooking, John would like that. :P I would also like to read more (well, more than just textbooks).
John and I took G-ma Finkbeiner out for dinner a few weeks ago and it was very fun. That's another thing I would like to do more of, spending time with friends and family that I don't get to see very often. Hmm...I'll have to make a sticky note of all the people I should call.
The other major thing I'm working on is of course Sarah's baby shower! I'm glad it's almost here, it'll be great fun, we made sure of it. *GASP* I have to wrap the gift! If I were at home I would now be running downstairs and doing that but I'm still at school (no worries, class let out early). Alright, I guess that's all for the next few weeks til I get around to posting again. ;)

overdue
Well an update is LONG overdue! There are also some overdue birthdays...my cousin Kendell, brother-in-law Seth, and of course nephews Isaac and Luke who we will always love and remember.
School: Everything has been crazy busy for me the past couple weeks. It really sucks to not be motivated when you're in your last year of school. I feel like I can't get done fast enough. Plus I still have at least seven major projects or tests coming up after Thanksgiving break...AAGGHHH!
Work: I got a promotion! I really should've updated that one a while ago buuut...
Wedding: Bridget is now going to be my maid of honor and I am very excited about that. My parents and John and I looked at the Caledonia Sportsmen Club for the reception and we're seriously considering it. The rental isn't much and then catering shouldn't be too bad if we go with someone we know and I think we can get off pretty cheap going that way. We still want to check out Centennial Country Club but it's a lot of money. Besides, the club has a great veiw and if we get enough white lights to string around we can create a really great ambiance. And the big moose head will go great with my colors! :P
Person of the week: MOM! Congrats on starting your very own blog! Check it out!

Guess what!
Yup, it happened again. Through no fault of my own I am again the last to post a HAPPY BIRTHDAY SARAH message on my blog. Darn work and school.
Oh well, I am what I am.
That's Popeye.

The last again...
Well, again, me being probably the busiest sister in the family right now (having to do two papers today and not feeling well until after getting up from a nap at 2p.m.) I am happy to hold my record as being the last to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY LORI!
For the record I was the last to post it for mom too.

Wedding plans
Things are going pretty well for me right now. The biggest problem I have is that my maid of honor told me she isn't going to be my maid of honor anymore.
So now I have some big decisions to make. I do have a couple options, I'm just trying to decide which is best.
Other than that John and I spent some time with Ej and Bridget the other night. It was lots of fun. We sat around the bon fire and John was blowing smoke rings with a stick that he put in the fire. It was very cool.
I also found an incredible wedding dress that will hopefully work. I'll have to try it on but that won't be for a long time yet. I'm trying to find bridesmaid dresses that I like also which is proving difficult. I think I'll buy a brides magazine.
I'm trying to find a place for the ceremony and reception. If you have any ideas that I haven't thought of let me know.
Interesting...

blech
School's a drag right now. I should be typing a 2-page response paper that's due in T-minus 6.5 hours but I just can't motivate myself. On top of that I have a 600 word news article due tomorrow afternoon with no time to do it if I don't get my butt in gear. I'm also doing laundry and have a site change before I leave for school. Well, here goes nothing...

New Beginnings
Well I'm starting at another Target store today. If you want to visit me I'll be at the M-6 and Kalamazoo store. I hope it goes well. I've also done some wedding planning today. I've looked at a couple of places on-line and called to check out the rates. There's two places that are actually looking affordable: Saskatoon golf course and the Celebration Cinema Wave Room. John and I will be checking those places out soon to see what's best and which can accomodate our crowd.
In other news: The Office premiered last Thursday and was as hilarious as I expected. I tape it every week because John has school that night. So if you miss it and want to see it let me know.

I'M ENGAGED!
Well I know we've all heard the news but I'm posting it anyway. On Friday, Septemeber 21 John asked me to marry him. I have never been happier in my life. I love him so much.
About a week before this he asked me if I wanted to go for a walk on the boardwalk where we used to go all the time and then to Carrabba's for dinner. So that was the plan. Well the day comes and it's about 80 degrees outside but it's also about 6:00pm so John says he's going to take a long sleeved shirt "just in case." I didn't think much of it and decided it was probably a good idea. So we went there and right off the boardwalk there's a path that follows a stream for a little ways and we used to go and fish there a lot (it's where I caught my first fish). Soon after getting there he pulled me into a hug and told me he loved me. At the same time I guess he dropped the shirt that the box was wrapped in and got the box ready. As we pulled apart from the hug the next thing I knew he was down on one knee asking me to marry him. I was so shocked that I could barely say yes. Of course I did and now we're engaged! I still can't believe it some days. I'm still getting used to having the ring on because I tend to hit it on things throughout the day. John and I are going to take some pictures tonight and then I'll post them on here so you all can see how happy we are.
Thanks to everyone who have been supportive of us and all who have congratulated us since the announcement. We really appreciate and love all of you very much.

Skillet rocks my face off!
John and I went to the Skillet concert last week Monday and it was awesome! John Cooper was hilarious on stage saying things like "I hope you go home without your face tonight...cause it got rocked off." It was amazing to say the least. They were there with Toby Mac who I thought was pretty good cause I enjoyed the dancing but John didn't like it so much. But we didn't even get to see it all cause we went back stage to meet Skillet. That was also amazing to say the least. We didn't meet the whole band, just Ben and John but it was a lot of fun and we got to talk with them for about an hour and learned some very interesting things about them. After John went to bed Ben prayed with us all before we left. That was very cool, I mean how many people can say they not only met but also prayed with a rock band? Very cool. Well here are a few pictures from that night.
Andy in the car after the concert...I realized I hadn't gotten a picture of him and we wouldn't remember that he was there if I didn't
Skillet on stage...the pictures showed up bigger before.
This is Dan, Melissa, David, and John right after Skillet performed...yes, it was pouring.
This is John and I with John Cooper and Ben Kasica is in the background...I love this picture.

School days
Well school has started and things are going fine. I feel kinda frustrated and overwhelmed sometimes but for the most part things are good. Trigonometry is kicking my butt most days. But it's only because the teacher sucks and it sounds like a lot of people are lost. We went over almost 15 questions off the homework today 'cause people didn't get it! So it's good to know I'm not the only one. Journalism is also kinda rough 'cause the professor grades really hard. If I pull out with a B I'll consider myself lucky. Education is stupid, well the class is anyway. It's a lot of busy work and stupid service learning stuff but I like the professor and my classmates. Finally, my communications class is the greatest! We get to watch movies every class period. Last night we watched Charlie Chaplain in The Kid and Buster Keaton in Steamboat Billy Jr. They were silent films of course but very humerous.
John bought The Office season three and we watched one whole disc plus a couple already. They are so funny! He also bought a bunch of food from the Fresh Market the other day and made a fabulous dinner last night. Chicken with noodles, tomatoes, peppers, garlic and some other stuff too. We had some tasty bread on the side and Cubby kept begging us for some. He did get a dropped noodle out of it though.

"My sisters are boring!"
Yup, that's right, apparently I'm boring. Well Sarah thinks so anyway. I guess I don't update a lot but it's just cause I don't normally have anything to update about. But here it goes...
Dean and Michelle's wedding went pretty well. The stuff that John and I didn't like was that the pastor never said "you may kiss the bride." I mean come on...that's the most fun part of the ceremony! He also went on and on about Fiddler on the Roof. Michelle looked so beautiful though and it was nice to be there to support friends who I've known from the start of their relationship. The reception was nice but we didn't stay for the dancing because it was already getting late and we were in Hudsonville. However, the best man speech was hilarious and the whole time Dean wore a ball and chain around his ankle.
John and I finally finished our pre-engagement counseling with Dan and Melissa. It was really nice to go through and we are excited for the marriage counseling. No word on when that's coming though. I suppose he SHOULD propose first ;)
John also started school this past Thursday and he said he loves it. I'm glad too cause it's the same people for 18 months! I start school on Tuesday and I'm in the home stretch of my education. I can see the end! Well I guess that's all for now...here a few pictures from the two weddings we attended, enjoy.

"It's wedding season baby!"
So John and I went to Ej and Bridget's wedding on Saturday and it was so gorgeous! It was held at Calvary in a smaller chapel. There weren't too many people there but it was so much fun. Ej and Bridget both cried and in turn John and I did too. The maid of honor dropped a flower and a couple of the bridesmaids laughed. Bridget also couldn't get Ej's ring on because his fingers had swelled up. The pastor actually stopped talking and asked if she needed help...it was hilarious! I guess in the car on the way to the reception his finger turned purple. Funny stuff.
The reception was at the Lincoln Country Club. It was a really nice place. The tables were set up with a white table cloth and a smaller navy blue one over top. There was a candle set inside a beautiful vase with a silver ribbon around it as the centerpieces. Everyone also got a candybar but the wrapping had two hearts and their names on it with the date. On the back there were facts about where they met and when he proposed. It was really cute. The food was amazing and we had a lot of fun dancing.

Binder, family, and 300!
So it's been a while since I've updated...sorry. This past weekend was really amazing. Saturday John and I attended the Finkbeiner family reunion with family from all over the country. That was pretty fun even though I had to show up late. The food was delicious and it was nice to meet family I've never met before.
Sunday, John and I went to Binder Park Zoo. That was a blast! (aside from getting lost on the way there). We fed the giraffes which was really cool and we saw wolves and cheetahs and snow leapords and monkeys and zebras and lots of other cool animals. It was so much fun. We also ate lunch at Don Pablos and their food is amazing! Once we got home we sat near a bon fire at mom and dad's house with a couple people from the reunion and ate pizza and talked. It was such a great weekend. Too bad Monday had to come.
Yesterday, John bought the movie 300! We watched it last night and even though it was better seeing it on the IMAX, it was still amazing on the small screen. I love it!

Blessed
John had his first day at the new job and it seems as though he liked it. He said it's pretty laid back and there are a lot of jokesters in the office...just like The Office! So far so good anyway, I hope it continues because he deserves something great where he can move up and do really important things.
In other news, John and I went to Dan and Melissa's house for pre-engagement counseling. We're going through the book Doing Things Right in Matters of the Heart. I really like it so far. The book is really straight forward about how culture sees relationships and how God says it should be.
Also, tomorrow night Lori, Mom, Ashley, and I are going to the fair. DEEP FRIED MUSHROOMS HERE I COME!! Though I heard Lori already ate some tonight :( Oh well, I'm sure she'll be willing to enjoy them again ;)
I feel very blessed today, I have such a wonderful boyfriend who is willing to do so much for me. He's willing to work a ton and go to school to make sure that I am provided for when we get married. I have an amazing family who always help me out and care about me no matter what I've been through. I LOVE YOU ALL!!

John's life
Well not much is going on right now. I just got home from work to a house full of people (well more than normal anyway) but it is surprisingly quiet. Seth and Dad are out building the barn, Sarah is on the couch sleeping, and Debbie, Kendell, and Ashley just went outside. So here I sit and update about...well...nothing really.
The biggest news right now is that John bought a punching bag. So now he can punch at it after a hard days work. I don't think I ever put it on here but John got a new job at an insurance company. It's such a blessing too because not only is it more money it's good insurance for when we get married. So tomorrow is his last day at Target (lucky bum). The other bit of exciting news is that he's also going to attend Cornerstone instead of GVSU. He's doing an excellerated program so he'll be done in 18 months instead of two years. YAY!

Fourth of July!
Well recently I've finished moving home and John is at Seth and Sarah's. It's hard but it's working out. Yesterday we had the Fourth of July celebration in Caledonia. It was fun. I worked in the morning but everyone else (even John) walked/rode in the parade. After that we took some family pictures. Then we went to my Aunt and Uncle's house for my grandpa's 80th birthday! We ate some amazing food, and grandma's cake never disappoints. Later we went to the fireworks where John and I sat with Dan, Melissa, and Theo. And some crazy guy kept screaming after each firework...the scream was like a hick though, imagine Ricky Bobby. It got to be semi-entertaining though when another started mocking him...really well too.
Today, John and I went to church and then to Jimmy John's for lunch. I had never been there but it was really good! Then we headed to Holland with a bunch of people from church. The water was 54 degrees though so John was of course the only one crazy enough to jump in. The wind got pretty cold too so we eventually packed it up and left. When we got back John and I saw Ratatouille. It is so cute and funny! I love it! Then we stopped at Big Boy for some dinner but it wasn't that great...at least it was food. Now, he's taking a shower to get the sand off him and I'm patiently waiting and typing this entry.
Wow, this was kinda long. Well I hope you enjoyed the update since it doesn't happen very often.

Shopping with Mom, etc...
So the dinosaur worked out okay, it didn't get too big but certainly bigger than when it started.
My mom took me shopping yesterday for my birthday which was so much fun! We ate at Olga's and later I found a skirt for the weddings that I must attend in August and a shirt for everyday wear. She got a couple shirts for herself too. After that we sat in Panera Bread for about 45 minutes just talking. It was good to spend quality time with my mom again, I love her! Thanks mom!
John is working this morning but later we'll start some major cleaning up of the apartment so we can get most everything moved out by Saturday. Hopefully we can also enjoy going to a movie or something fun tonight.

Beach Day!
Yesterday John and I went to Holland and had a really great time. The water was freezing though so we...well I...didn't do much swimming. John enjoyed jumping off the pier a couple times. He also fished but unfortunately didn't catch anything. We did get some sun though so now I have a little tan started. We also got some candy at the General Store, and John bought a dinosaur that is supposed to get really big when put in water. We'll see how it goes.
"That's a lot of rocks!"- little girl on the pier
"Yup, they stretch all the way to Minnesota." - her mom
"Wisconsin?" - me (though not to her face)

Birthday Celebration!
So my birthday was the other day. Besides having to be in class for six hours and take an exam it was a great day! John bought me the movie Norbit (Seth and Sarah you can borrow it when we move whenever you want) and also a BIG stuffed dog. I really had a good time.
Recently I got an A on my big paper for critical interpretation. Unfortunately, the quizzes in my broadcasting class have been suffering a little...B's but it should be A's since it's open book. Oh well. I'm excited for school to be done, I'm ready to enjoy the summer.

Home again
I'm moving back home...and John will be right across the creek! I'm sad but pretty excited at the same time. It will be okay though, I know it will be.
School's almost over, only two more weeks! I'm doing well also so that's good. I got my paper done last night and turned it in this morning. Five pages on why parents should make sure their children aren't watching violence...boring! But well written if I do say so myself.
John and I might be having EJ and Bridget over tomorrow so that should be full of fun. Funny thing is that they're moving out here to Wyoming in like two months, but John and I won't be here. Kinda funny.
Well I guess that's all for now!

WELCOME HOME LORI!
So I have a 900-1250 word paper due in two days and have barely started it. So instead of updating this thing I should be working on that but I enjoy procrastinating. Anyway, I have nothing to say really.
Lori - I hope you had a good time in LA. Welcome home sister! Rather than bore you all (if anyone actually reads this) with meaningless things about my life which is highly unexciting, I'll just end it here.

School...yuck
I'm at the midterm time for my summer classes already, that means only three weeks left!! I did really well on my first exam for my night class. I also got an A- on an intro/conclusion assignment for my afternoon class so that's fabulous. I really love that professor, she's great.
Despite all that I still hate going to school in the summer. The other day John and I went to the park before I had to go to school and I felt so depressed when I had to leave. It was such a nice day and I was having fun! Yesterday we also went to the park and played tennis. It was fun but I kept hitting the ball into other people's courts so I felt kinda bad, but whatever. Friday we plan to go to Holland, hopefully today will help the water tempurature rise even more so we can swim without freezing. So that's my life right now. Oh, and there's work but nobody wants to hear about that.

My Sweet Man
Disclaimer: This post will be mushy sort of like the last one.
You’re my girl forever and ever.
We can overcome anything in life,
Since we will always be together.
Every bright sunny day,
Every dark one too.
I am a better man because of you.
I am happy when I am with you,
And patient when I am not.
For every time I see you,
Each minute means a lot.
After a long day at school this poem was waiting for me on the computer...how sweet.

Changing names

So I've been listening to the Free At Last album by DC Talk lately and it has made me very happy. One song that I've always loved has seriously had new meaning now that I listen to it again. It's about finding the right girl and it says, "When I finally meet her, I'll know how to treat her, by fulfilling all her needs. Love her and respect her, cherish her forever, she's the kinda girl for me." And as I listened to it I realized that John really treats me the way I deserve and he does so much for me everyday. He's always there for me and he buys me food and pays for my phone and is just amazing. And of course he loves me and respects me and I'm just really lucky to have such a wonderful man. So that's part of why I renamed the blog Free At Last, cause I like the album. And of course Jesus has set me free so it's fitting in all respects.

Is this better Sarah?
Well, I've changed the name of my blog now, because Sarah told me to (with exclamation points). I'll agree it's time but I'm pretty busy with school for the next five weeks so I'm not guaranteeing many updates. Sarah has also graciously provided me with a list of possible topics to write about so I'll be good for a couple months. So thank you Sarah for the insipiration and ideas.

Nothing to do with London
This has nothing to do with London but I just wanted to say congratulations to Kyle and Charity on their new baby boy...Noah!

More plays...
Now let us cover the bad and the ugly, cause I already covered the good. By the Bog of Cats...AWFUL!! It had Holly Hunter in it so you'd think, hey this is worth going to. And, it was supposedly based on the story of Medea, which I had read just a few weeks prior and was very excited about. What a disappointment. The Mandate was alright, it was based in Russia and was about Anastasia whatever her last name is. It was a lot of slap-stick humor. The History Boys, this play was also pretty good depending on your taste. Macbeth, this was the play I was reviewing, the more I thought about it the less I liked it. King Lear, we got to go a discussion with the director before this and it was pretty interesting if I hadn't been so tired. The play was way boring though until the storm, right Emily? Let's see...Playboy of the West Indies, I actually liked this one quite a bit but the audience was unruly and it kind of ruined the play. The set was really good though and the actors put on accents. Patience was a play that would most likely never be done in the Grand Rapids area. This play was depressing and pointless, however, being a Christian college it was a lot like the story of Job. Which was its only redeeming value since some guys got naked on stage. Grand Hotel was the last play we saw and it was a musical. Not good or bad, just real mediocre. I really don't even remember the plot. Anyway, enjoy some quotes...
"Come on Shakespeare! You dropped the ball" - Angie (in relation to Macbeth, I think)
"I was introduced to them after I was introduced to their penises" - Lorien (in relation to Patience)
"When actors die on stage, it's usually a bad thing" - Dave"Keen observation" - Mary
"Eh, it's gonna be either good or bad, probably" - Adam"Well as long as we've got it narrowed down. . ." - Megan (in relation to The Mandate)

Finally London!
Unfortunately it never aired, but it's still pretty cool. Some of the better plays we saw were His Dark Materials. Which was actually a two part play but only the first part was good, actually the first night was amazing. Aladdin was really amazing too. It was pantomime which is something that's not done in America but is really funny. What made it especially hilarious was first, Ian Mckellen played a cross dresser, he played Aladdin's mom, and also there were technical problems with the show but it only made it better!
"So there's this polar bear and he asks his mom, 'Mom, am I part grizzly?' and she says no dear you're a polar bear..."

Stratford-Upon-Avon
Alright, so the trip was called Theatre in London and was a class taken for credit at Calvin. This trip was seriously the highlight of my two years at Calvin. While we stayed in Stratford-Upon-Avon we saw three shows...Julius Caesar, Two Gentlemen of Verona, and Beauty and the Beast. Julius Caesar was probably the best of those three. It was placed in modern times and was really funny, the worst part was when they ripped out some guy's heart and then hung it on him. Then three of them, including the dead guy, broke into song...It's w-w-w-w-war! Really crazy stuff but a good show. Beauty and the Beast was pretty good, one girl who was on the trip looks kinda like a little kid and she was sitting in the front row. So then came this part where they throw one bag of cotton candy into the audience, it went straight to her. She also got the wings when we were on the plane. Anyway, the set was choppy and the when the beast turned back into the prince it was quite the disappointment. Let's see, also while in Stratford I toured the Royal Shakespeare Company Theatre and Warwick Castle which had a real dungeon! And torture devices...? Pretty sweet.

The trip...
Well, it was my first time flying so I was a little nervous but okay. We first flew to Detroit and then were delayed for a couple of hours. When we finally started to taxi there was some sort of pressure problem so we had to go back to the gate. We were scheduled to leave at 9:30p.m. or something like that and we didn't leave until about 2:30a.m. So the first flight experience was not so great. But finally getting into the bed and breakfast and getting some sleep in a real bed was amazing. I love London!

Introduction
Though it was two years ago my trip to London will forever be etched in my memory. It was a large part of my life where I met some of my closest friends and had one of the most incredible experiences of my life. So it is here where I will relive these memories for a short time, at least until the assignment is over, possibly longer.
